SUMMARY:Mary Jacobs- She Takes the Helm
DESCRIPTION:"Our wake neatly unzipped a blue silk gown behind us." So begins Mary Jacobs's dream of fishing for a living on the ocean. From deckhand to experienced skipper of the first all-woman crew seining out of Kodiak\, this memoir is a fantastic read. A true sea adventure story. You won't want to put it down!\nCLICK HERE TO RESERVE YOUR SEATS! \nMary Jacobs grew up in a Boston suburb with her sister and mathematician mother. Summers\, the sisters lived with their dad in Malibu. She dropped out of the University of California in 1971 and moved to Alaska\, where she fell in love with the state and its people. She worked a variety of land-based jobs\, then she crewed on fishing boats\, eventually becoming a skipper who hired women crew. Each successive boat she bought was larger\, carried more fish\, and was increasingly seaworthy. In the 1990s\, Mary fished\, often with her kids as crew\, on her last boat\, the fifty-foot Renaissance. In 2020\, she moved to Anacortes\, Washington\, to be closer to her children\, grandchildren\, and many Alaskan friends. Mary lives an active life\, gardening\, hiking\, and writing.
