"Buzzing with memory monsters, tender girlhood, haunting grief, and startling selves" Monster Galaxy braids personal grief with what it means to be a woman, a mother, a daughter and traces the origin of internal monsters to the delta between what society thinks a woman should be and who she is.
Out of a Land of Alkali and Chromate is about coming from violence; finding sanctuary with grandparents, books, food, and fairy tales; and finding home. A story of yearning and seeking – both with some help from a prince and with guts and persistence.
Susan Landgraf's Out of a Land of Alkali and Chromate was published this spring by MoonPath Press. She's published 6 books, including Journey of Trees, The Inspired Poet, and What We Bury Changes the Ground. An Academy of American Poet Laureates award resulted in A Muckleshoot Poetry Anthology in 2024. She's published more than 400 poems in Nimrod, Prairie Schooner, Rattle, Poet Lore and others.
Forty Bouts in the Wilderness is about returning to difficult places by choice or by what seem like fateful accidents. Diverse in poetic form and geographical location, the poems wander through clear and ambiguous losses to reunite the past with a whole, grounded "here."
Katy E. Ellis, a WWU alum, is the author of Forty Bouts in the Wilderness, first runner-up for the 2024 MoonPath Press Sally Albiso Award and released in March 2025. Her other books include the prose-poetry-novel Home Water, Home Land (Tolsun Books), and an award-winning chapbook Night Watch (Floating Bridge Press). Her work has most recently appeared in Mom Egg Review and SWWIM, and in Canadian journal PRISM International. She has twice been nominated for a Pushcart Prize.
